99 York Street is a shared community house sustained by the people and groups who use and care about it. Membership is open to anyone who shares and respects the values of the house and believes in the importance of accessible, affordable community space in Kingston.
Becoming a member is a way to say: this place matters to me. Membership dues help ensure the long-term care of the house and supports ongoing improvements—like accessibility renovations—that allow more people to participate fully in community life.
Memberships go the Board of Directors for approval. They are renewed annually in April.
Why become a member?
As a member, you:
- Help sustain a unique, community-run space that reduces barriers to connection and participation
- Support the upkeep, accessibility, and affordability of the house
- Gain access to low-cost meeting space and shared house resources
- Have a voice in the future of the house through voting at the Annual General Meeting and other general meetings
- Become part of a diverse community of individuals and groups who use the house to connect, organize, and support one another
- Members are also eligible to run for election to the Board of Directors
Types of membership
We offer two membership options:
Individual Membership – $25/year
For individuals who use the house, volunteer, participate in groups, or simply want to support the mission of 99 York Street.
Group Membership – $40/year
For community groups, clubs, non-profits or peer-support groups that meet at the house or wish to support its ongoing operation.
How to become a member
- Complete a membership application form, which goes to the Board of Directors for approval. Renewals are automatically approved.
- Pay the membership due by cash, cheque, or e-transfer:
- Cash or cheque: Please place your payment in an envelope in the drop-box in the hallway near the kitchen entrance. Be sure to include your name or your group’s name.
- Cheques: Payable to Kingston Community House
- E-transfer: Send to treasurer@kingstoncommunityhouse.org
- Someone will reach out to you. We would be thrilled to give you an orientation to the House and its amenities! We will also add your email to our newsletter.
Reminders: Please remember to renew your membership in April each year and to keep us informed if the contact person for your group changes.
